Remnants (2013)

When an unexpected and catastrophic solar flare engulfs Earth, our world is plunged into an enduring, inky blackness. Civilization teeters precariously on the brink of chaos, the thin veneer of order disintegrating as all modern conveniences are lost to this celestial event. Ensconced within the claustrophobic confines of a Cold War bunker, the President and top government officials grapple with their own sanity, wrestling to find a solution to the escalating crisis above ground. Simultaneously, in a middle-class suburban enclave, a group of ordinary individuals — schoolteachers, businessmen, neighbors — are thrust into an extraordinary situation. Stripped of the comforts of their former lives, they band together, pooling their resources and skills. From the ashes of their old world, they cultivate a resilient village of self-sustaining warriors, armed with seeds and bullets, courage and desperation. Adapting to their new reality, they forge a simpler existence that is both harsh and beautiful. However, their success does not go unnoticed. The surrounding subdivisions, teeming with less resourceful residents, grow envious and restless. The struggle for survival soon escalates into a territorial war, threatening to undo all their efforts.
