Ravenous (1999)

In the chilling winter of 1847, amidst the aftermath of the Mexican-American War, Captain John Boyd, an unexpected hero, finds himself reassigned to the desolate outpost of Fort Spencer, nestled within the foreboding terrain of the Sierra Nevadas. Despite his acts of bravery, Boyd's demons haunt him, compelling his superior, General Slauson, to station him far from the heart of action. Fort Spencer, a solitary way station for mountain travelers, is managed by a motley crew of five military personnel, including Colonel Hart, and two local indigenous siblings, George and Martha, who are as much a part of the fort as its weathered walls.
