Plot

In the chilling winter of 1847, amidst the aftermath of the Mexican-American War, Captain John Boyd, an unexpected hero, finds himself reassigned to the desolate outpost of Fort Spencer, nestled within the foreboding terrain of the Sierra Nevadas. Despite his acts of bravery, Boyd's demons haunt him, compelling his superior, General Slauson, to station him far from the heart of action. Fort Spencer, a solitary way station for mountain travelers, is managed by a motley crew of five military personnel, including Colonel Hart, and two local indigenous siblings, George and Martha, who are as much a part of the fort as its weathered walls. Unsettling tranquility of the fort is disrupted when a frost-bitten man, F.W. Colqhoun, stumbles into their midst, his life hanging by a thread. As Colqhoun regains his strength, he spins a harrowing tale of survival, recounting the grisly deeds of his party leader, U.S. Army Colonel Ives. Stranded by the unforgiving winter, Ives devolves into a monstrous entity, feasting on the flesh of the fallen to survive. The tale grows darker as Colqhoun reveals his escape, leaving behind a lone survivor, Mrs. MacCready, at the mercy of the cannibalistic Ives. Compelled by duty and the chilling narrative, Colonel Hart spearheads a rescue mission, aiming to save Mrs. MacCready and bring the monstrous Ives to justice. As they venture into the bleak wilderness, Boyd is left in a precarious cat and mouse game with Ives, their fates intertwining in a grotesque dance of survival. Boyd's inner turmoil, Ives' horrifying transformation, and an indigenous legend of the Windigo—a creature that absorbs the strength and spirit of its consumed enemies—add layers of complexity to their struggle. The balance teeters between their instinct for survival and the strength of their moral compass. As the chilling tale of 'Ravenous' unfolds, viewers are left pondering the lengths one might go to survive, and the monstrous forms that desperation can take.
