Plot

Shrouded in a veil of mystery and obscurity, "The Brookdale Institute" operates as an asylum for the criminally insane, a fact known only to a select few. It simultaneously serves as a haven for the affluent, the drug-addicted, and the once-famous who have hit rock bottom, providing them a sanctuary when every other door has closed on them. Sensing an explosive news story in potential health code breaches, "Jennifer/Samantha" (Sara Downing), a tenacious reporter for the "The Philadelphia Enquirer", infiltrates the institute under the pretense of being a patient. However, she soon discovers that the true story within Brookdale's walls is far more extraordinary and terrifying than anything she could have ever penned. Brookdale is plagued by a colony of hyper-intelligent, supernaturally enhanced killer rats - an unintended consequence of experiments once carried out by "Dr. William Winslow" (Ron Perlman), the Head Psychiatrist of Brookdale. Although Dr. Winslow had long since abandoned these experiments, "Ernst" (Michael Zelniker), a former patient and now caretaker, has nurtured a powerful telepathic bond with these rodents, creating a deadly symbiosis. As the institute's residents start vanishing one by one, and the body count escalates, even the formidable extermination duo, RatMaster General "Hans" ('John Paul Young') and his sidekick, "Jim" (Adam Gierasch), find themselves overmatched by the monstrous might of this hybrid rodent strain. The stage is set for a chilling battle, where survival is as elusive as the truth itself.
