Plot

In this vibrant tale, initially inspired by Damon Runyon's "All Scarlet" and J. Robert Bren and Norman Houston's "Odds Are Even", we follow the fortunes of horse breeder Tom Martin and his determined daughter Doris. Amidst a losing streak, Doris convinces her father to enter their mare into the illustrious county fair race. At the fair, a tempting offer to fix the race is dismissed by Martin, who reconnects with his old comrades, the "Judge" and "Warbler". However, a tragic twist of fate sees their mare, just a hair's breadth from victory, forced into the rail and consequently ruined as a racer. Returning home, Doris throws herself into the training of a promising colt named Katydid, entering it into a claiming race at Santa Anita. Her unconventional role as a female trainer garners significant media attention. Her success catches the eye of wealthy amateur horseman Steve Wendall, who tries to lure her with an offer to train his stable. Doris initially resists, but when Wendall cleverly claims Katydid on behalf of his trainer, Bradford, she reluctantly agrees. Doris then embarks on a whirlwind journey from the East to Europe, achieving consecutive victories with Wendall's horses. However, tensions mount between Ruth and Wendall over the fate of Katydid. Ruth suspects Wendall of kidnapping the horse to prevent it from competing in the Santa Anita, leading to a thrilling climax that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. "Racing Lady" is a captivating tale of ambition, rivalry, and the relentless spirit of competition.
