In the bustling heart of New York, Lacey Farrell, an adept Realtor, is tasked with selling a recently vacated apartment. Its previous occupant, a young girl, met an untimely end in what was proclaimed an accident. However, the girl's grieving mother professes a chilling suspicion - her daughter was murdered. During a routine showing of the apartment, Lacey encounters the mother, who adamantly insists on the heinous truth of her daughter's demise. They part ways, leaving the mother alone in the apartment. Later, a mysterious phone call compels Lacey to return, only to find the mother lifeless, and the seemingly innocent buyer revealed as the cold-blooded killer. In the mother's dying moments, she entrusts Lacey with her daughter's journal, an artifact that could hold the secrets to her murder. Lacey, driven by a sense of justice, duplicates the journal and delivers it to the girl's father before turning it over to the police. The chilling revelation that the killer is a seasoned professional forces Lacey into the shadowy folds of the FBI's Witness Protection program, relocating her to the serene landscapes of Minnesota.
