Plot

In the heart of 1973 Chile, amidst the chaos of a coup, we find Mario Cornejo, a 55-year-old coroner's clerk, ensnared in a web of obsession and longing for his enchanting neighbor, Nancy Puelmo, a burlesque dancer who lights up the stage at the local nightclub, Bim-Bam-Bum. After a chance encounter that sees Nancy in his car, the unsuspected turmoil of a protest march engulfs them, leading to her sudden departure. As the evening unfolds, Nancy finds refuge from the banality of a political meeting in Mario's company, deepening his infatuation for her despite her dismissive response to his marriage proposal. The morning after, the world as he knows it crumbles. Nancy's house lies in ruins, her family, staunch Allende supporters, are missing, and Mario's workplace, the autopsy clinic, is flooded with lifeless bodies and armed soldiers. Amidst the pandemonium, Mario is instructed to perform a post-mortem examination on none other than the fallen president, Salvador Allende. Stricken by the loss of his elusive lover and the disarray around him, Mario embarks on a desperate quest to find Nancy. Upon his return, he discovers the object of his affection hiding in his home, leading to an intricate dance of secrecy and survival as he becomes her protector, providing her with shelter and sustenance. However, the illusion of their shared sanctuary shatters when Mario stumbles upon Nancy in the arms of her activist friend, Victor, leaving him feeling betrayed and alone in a world that is changing faster than his heart can bear.
