Plot

In the bustling heart of downtown New York City, the spirited and hard-drinking Apple Annie peddles her basket of apples, becoming as iconic a figure as the venerable Broadway itself. Dave the Dude, a warm-hearted bootlegger, swears by her apples as his lucky charm. His gal, Queenie Martin, completes this trio of unconventional souls. Life tosses them a curveball when it's revealed that Annie's life is knotted with complications that only they can untangle. Annie's daughter Louise, blossoming in the seclusion of a Spanish convent, is crossing the Atlantic with a noble Count and his son. The young man is smitten with Louise and is eager to marry her, under the impression that her mother is a high society dame of New York City. In a whirlwind of events, it falls to Dave, Queenie, and their eclectic band of friends to transform Annie from a humble apple peddler into a sophisticated lady, spinning a web of illusion to convince the Count and his son they are mingling with the crème de la crème of New York's elite. This delightful tale of transformation and deception, set against the vibrant backdrop of New York City, is a testament to the power of friendship, luck, and a pocketful of miracles.
