Pirates of the Plain (1999)

In the whimsical family comedy-adventure, Pirates of the Plain (1999), a young boy named Bobby (Seth Adkins) finds that his daydreams have become startlingly real. Raised in an isolated Midwest farming community by his mother (Dee Wallace Stone) and grandfather (Charles Napier), Bobby seeks refuge from his solitary life and the struggle to keep their farm afloat in a vibrant fantasy world of his own creation, one where he triumphs over cowboys, vanquishes space invaders, and always outwits the villains. One ordinary day, the mundane landscape is dramatically transformed as dark, crimson clouds gather ominously overhead. Instead of a storm, however, a temporal portal tears open the sky, dropping the flamboyant seventeenth-century pirate, Jezebel Jack (Tim Curry), into Bobby's world. Jack, a self-proclaimed "adventurer of independent means", is rescued by Bobby and finds a temporary home with the boy's family. Bobby is thrilled; his once-lonely life is now filled with excitement and adventure. However, the thrilling presence of a pirate comes with an inevitable side of danger. A rival gang of pirates, hot on Jack's trail, navigate their ship through the same time portal, and suddenly, there's a pirate vessel sailing through the golden wheat fields of the Midwest. Teaming up with his new friend, Bobby must draw on the heroic persona from his fantasy world to defend his home in a battle that blurs the line between his dreams and reality.
