Plot

In the heart of Canada live the Dhaliwals, a family deeply rooted in traditional Sikh values. Gugan, their eldest daughter, is on the cusp of her nineteenth birthday, a pivotal moment that brings forth a cascade of changes lined up by her family. Despite her Western upbringing, Gugan is bound by an arranged marriage to a boy from India, a promise made at her birth, and a debt owed for her mute younger brother Ruman's medical expenses. Torn between duty and desire, Gugan is also entangled in a tumultuous relationship with Arjan, a directionless young man who's left her pregnant. On the brink of a life-altering decision, Gugan's path takes an unexpected turn. A chance encounter with an enigmatic man bearing an English accent on the beach sparks a powerful connection. His acceptance of her complicated circumstances strengthens Gugan's resolve to break free from her arranged marriage. Meanwhile, news of her triplet pregnancy, all girls, sets the stage for a cultural clash with her traditional community and her mother, who favor boys over girls. Gugan's story is a vibrant tapestry of tradition, modernity, obligation, and rebellion. Faced with the challenge of her triple pregnancy, she contemplates her choices - abortion, standing her ground, or adhering to her culture. As she navigates these crossroads, she's driven by a desire to correct the cultural biases inherent in her community. "Pink Ludoos" is a compelling exploration of a young woman's struggle between her cultural obligations and personal desires. The story unfolds as Gugan makes choices that will not only shape her life but also challenge the societal norms of her community. With her unborn daughters at stake, Gugan must ultimately decide what's best for her and her children amidst the complexity of her situation.
