Plot
With a heart as warm as his innocence, 26-year-old Patrick grapples with the challenges of schizophrenia. His life is a delicate balance, maintained through medication and the vigilant shelter of his mother, Maura. This equilibrium sustains until the unexpected happens - he falls in love. Maura, a fiercely devoted mother, spirals into overprotection, blinding her to the truth that love, when misguided, can hurt more than hatred.
In a twist of fate, Karen, a soon-to-be-unemployed, alcoholic flight attendant checks into a hotel, planning to escape her life. Little does she know that a profound connection with Patrick awaits, a connection potent enough to reignite her will to live.
Lurking on the fringes of this complex love story is Freeman, a solitary police officer with dreams of stand-up comedy. When Maura can't locate her son, Freeman sees an opportunity to exploit his position to aid her search, but at a cost. Patrick's Day paints an evocative picture of the universal human right to intimacy, suggesting that when it comes to love, sanity is a relative term. This stirring tale reminds us that beneath the surface, we all harbor a touch of madness.
