Plot

In the depths of his 40-year-old life crisis, Paul Morvan stands at the intersection of unemployment, depression, and hypochondria. His existence is a battleground, with his aloof daughter, Roxane, his ex-wife demanding alimony, and his rich, Alzheimer-afflicted mother steadfastly refusing to spare him a penny. Amidst this chaos, his only comfort is his loyal mutt, Nero. His life takes an even more chaotic turn when Ashanti, the son of his African illegal immigrant neighbor, turns the quiet landing into a noisy football arena. Fed up, Paul retaliates, leading to an unexpected and colourful consequence—Nero is painted purple. This sparks an escalating feud between them, leading to an ironic twist of fate when Paul, hoping to rid himself of his neighbors by involving the police, finds himself caring for Ashanti's children, Léo and Bintou. As he contemplates turning them into the police, he finds himself thwarted by Bintou, a darker version of Harry Potter, who cleverly uses Nero as leverage. Simultaneously, the narrative unfolds a seemingly implausible connection between Paul and Ashanti's mother. Both trapped in their individual struggles—Paul white, jobless, and desperate; Ashanti's mother a black, illegal immigrant—they despise each other, their mutual racism creating a thick wall between them. However, in a surprising twist of fate, a faux marriage emerges as a potential solution to their predicaments. A chance for Ashanti's mother to avoid deportation and, for Paul, an opportunity for employment. "Pas de toit sans moi" is a tempestuous whirlwind of contrasting lives crashing into each other, a tale of desperation, revenge, and unexpected alliances, all painted in hues of purple and hope.
