Paruthiveeran (2007)

Set against the raw and rustic backdrop of rural Madurai, in the village of Parithiyur, the tale of Paruthiveeran (Karthi), a notorious country rogue, unfurls. Known for his petty crimes and yearning for infamy, Paruthiveeran dreams of making headlines and landing in the renowned Madras Jail. His life is a whirlwind of bullying the villagers for money, women, and amusement, accompanied by his indulgent uncle Chevvaazhai (Saravanan) who tolerates his misdemeanors to keep him content. In this rugged landscape, Muththazhagu (Priyamani), Paruthiveeran's cousin and daughter of a caste-obsessed village council member, harbors an unyielding love for him. This love sprouted when as a child, Paruthiveeran saved her life, prompting her to vow to be his wife. Despite his indifference and occasional violence, she defies her parents, sabotages her education to stay in his class, and dreams of a life together. However, when Paruthiveeran finally realizes the depth of her love and plans to marry her, the bitter feud between their families rears its ugly head. Obstinate and possessive, he warns her against marrying a man chosen by her parents, even threatening to dismember her. Despite his warnings, her parents push forward with their wedding plans. In a desperate attempt to be with Paruthiveeran, Muththazhagu flees home, only to be abducted and horrifically violated. When Paruthiveeran discovers her, she implores him to dismember her to prevent anyone from finding her violated state. He complies with her heart-wrenching plea, only to be mistaken for her attacker and assailant by her family. The tragic tale of Paruthiveeran and Muththazhagu concludes with him falling victim to a brutal beating, paying the ultimate price for a love that was doomed from the start.
