Plot

Young Parrish McLean stands on the brink of manhood, yet he remains unacquainted with the true essence of being a man. His widowed mother, Ellen McLean, eager to steer him away from a dead-end job in Boston, relocates them to the lush Connecticut River Valley. Here, she takes a job on Sala Post's tobacco farm, assisting Sala's stubborn and motherless daughter, Alison Post, with her debut into society. Despite his lack of knowledge about tobacco farming, Parrish finds himself intrigued by the business. He secures a job as a farmhand on the Post farm, getting tangled in the thorny rivalry between Sala and his arch-rival, Judd Raike. As Sala clings to his small family farm, the few remaining in the valley, he battles against the relentless expansion of Raike's corporate empire, a ruthless man hell-bent on victory at any cost. Parrish is swept up further into the tempest of the Post-Raike feud as he navigates a complex web of relationships. He forms bonds with Alison; with Lucy, a fellow farmhand entangled in her own mysterious romance; and with Judd's ambitious daughter, Paige. In a surprising twist, Ellen marries Judd, tying Parrish even more tightly to the tobacco business. Judd insists that Parrish learn the ropes from the ground up, deepening his involvement in the merciless world of tobacco farming. "Parrish" is a tale of a young man's journey into adulthood amid the smoke and turmoil of the tobacco business, where he learns about love, loyalty, and the harsh realities of life. The sprawling tobacco fields of Connecticut serve as an unforgiving backdrop to Parrish’s struggles, where every leaf holds a secret and every puff of smoke whispers of rivalry and passion.
