In the heart of Paris, the city of love, Simone (Mary Ellis), finds herself paralyzed by the fear of matrimony, leading her to break off her longstanding engagement to the smitten Paul de Lille (Tullio Carminati). Crushed, Paul finds solace at the summit of the iconic Eiffel Tower, contemplating a fatal leap. Meanwhile, across the city in a parallel tale of cold feet, Mignon (Ida Lupino) also recoils from the prospect of marriage, severing ties with her young lover (James Blakely). Overwhelmed by despair, Mignon ascends the Eiffel Tower with a similar intention to end her life. A chance encounter at the edge of eternity unites these two desolate hearts; sharing their tales of heartbreak and fear, they find solace in their shared predicament. Inspired by their newfound camaraderie, Paul convinces Mignon to step back from the brink. Together, they hatch a playful plot to feign an affair, hoping to ignite jealousy within their estranged lovers, and perhaps, rekindle the flames of their own lost love.
