Plot

Born into poverty, young Francesco, an Italian peasant boy, is visited by visions of sacred figures, including Jesus and Mary, but also encounters the Devil. Despite these supernatural experiences, he remains steadfast in his resolution to devote his life to the priesthood. Upon entering the Capuchin Order, he adopts the moniker Padre Pio, and soon displays inexplicable abilities - he heals the ailing, intuitively knows the identities, dilemmas, and destinies of strangers, and even foretells the future papacy of the then-obscure Karol Wojtyla. In 1918, Padre Pio is marked with the stigmata, the wounds mirroring those of Christ, further deepening the mystery surrounding him. His devout followers multiply, and his passionate prayers and acts of charity leave a profound impact on the people. However, his burgeoning fame and unexplained abilities stoke unease within the church and the Vatican. The solitary exhibition of his stigmata leads many to label him as a charlatan or a hysteric. Subjected to severe reprisals, Padre Pio is stripped of his priestly duties. Yet, the common people remain unwavering in their faith in him and his miracles. Just before his death in 1968, a grand reconciliation occurs with a high-ranking Vatican official, validating Padre Pio's sanctity. This compelling narrative explores the extraordinary life of a man caught between divine intervention and human skepticism, ultimately revered as a saint.
