Plot

In the heart of Saint-Denis, a Parisian suburb, 15-year-old Sanou harbors a colossal dream. Her heart beats for the renewable energy industry, where she aspires to make her mark as a wind power engineer. A beacon of brilliance in her humble surroundings, Sanou's academic prowess earns her a coveted spot in one of Paris's most esteemed schools. As she navigates her second year, she's determined to secure admission into the elusive engineering course. Sanou, however, is a distinct entity in her prestigious school. She doesn't hail from a lineage of wealth, nor is she an only child. Most noticeably, her black skin sets her apart from her affluent, white classmates. Between the relentless academic rigor and the palpable social pressure, life at the school is a formidable challenge. Add to this an unstable family situation and draining daily commutes, and Sanou’s path appears steep and grueling. Amidst this turmoil, a glimmer of hope emerges. Sanou's former teacher, Madame Lebel, presents an offer that could change the course of her journey - a scholarship that includes a student room in Paris. However, this golden opportunity comes with a caveat: Sanou must provide tutoring to Khady, a girl known for her challenging behavior. As Sanou teeters on the brink of her dreams and reality, she finds herself in a battle against societal norms, academic obstacles, and personal challenges. The story of "Owning It" unfolds as she grapples with the obstacles in her path, striving to turn the tide in her favor.
