Plot

Born amidst the treacherous reefs and storm-lashed waves of New England, Flotsam, the presumed daughter of lighthouse keeper Amos Bart, grows up mastering the relentless sea. Her skills are tested one fateful day when she valiantly saves Mrs. Elmer, a holidaying socialite, from a watery grave. Mrs. Elmer's son, Edward, is drawn to the courageous Flotsam and a deep bond blossoms amidst the sea spray and stark lighthouse beams. But the budding romance is threatened by Joey Clark, Amos' rugged assistant, who harbors a brutal desire for Flotsam. In a desperate bid to claim her, Clark unveils a chilling secret - Amos, ensnared in a drunken haze years ago, had allegedly murdered Edward's father. Shaken by the revelation, Amos confesses to the crime and discloses another heart-wrenching truth: Flotsam isn't his daughter but the child of a dying woman entrusted to his care. Torn, Flotsam is urged by Amos to leave with the Elmers. But Edward's jealous ex-lover, unable to bear their love, spitefully reveals Amos' supposed crime to Flotsam. In a twist of fate, Flotsam returns just in time to witness Clark's shocking admission of the real murder - he had slain Edward's father. As the truth unfolds, a fierce struggle ensues between Amos and Clark, causing the lighthouse beam to extinguish. With the Elmer yacht dangerously close to the rocky shore, Flotsam, in a heroic act, illuminates their path with a blazing torch, saving them from disaster. In the aftermath of the turbulent night, Flotsam and Edward, bound by love and shared trials, make plans to unite in matrimony, their future shimmering like a lighthouse beam in the dark.
