Plot

In the tranquil tranquility of Waiheke Island, a secluded paradise off the coast of Auckland, an unexpected encounter unfolds as the worlds of a solitary architect and three runaway teenagers collide. Jeremy, a wealthy architect (Colin Moy) who harbors a haunting loss, finds his luxury retreat overrun by three homeless youths, desperate to evade the reach of social services. Their sanctuary in question, a whirlwind of chaos ensues, leading to an explosive confrontation with the fiery Kenae (Calae Hignett-Morgan), and the seductive scheming of his elder sister, Tibs (Hanelle Harris). In the course of one fateful night, within the confines of an opulent home that stands as a stark contrast to their tumultuous lives, an unexpected dynamic takes root. The architect, initially an unwilling participant in this high-stakes game of survival, is compelled to confront uncomfortable echoes of his own past. As the night deepens, the line between intruder and ally blurs, forging an unlikely camaraderie steeped in shared isolation and vulnerability. With dawn's arrival, the law, too, makes its imminent presence known. Suddenly, the tables turn once more, as architect and runaways find themselves in an unlikely alliance, united by circumstance and an unspoken understanding. Their fight for freedom takes a dramatic turn, as they must navigate the treacherous waters of authority together. "Orphans & Kingdoms" is a poignant exploration of loss, survival, and the unlikely bonds formed in the face of adversity. Set against the stunning backdrop of Waiheke Island, this single-night saga serves as a haunting reminder that beneath the surface of society's outcasts and the privileged, beats the universal heart of humanity.
