Plot

Immersed in the sun-scorched landscapes of a small Australian mining town, we find the spirited Kellyanne - a young girl who finds companionship in her two unseen companions, Pobby and Dingan. Unseen by all, except her, these imaginary friends become her refuge from the harsh realities of her rural existence. Her only other ally is her older brother, Ashmol, a boy divided between the embarrassment he feels about his sister's peculiar behavior and his deep-rooted affection for her. Their father, an opal miner wrestling with the whims of fortune, and their mother, a woman striving to find her own place within the tight-knit community, are burdened with the challenge of parenting in this austere environment. They yearn for Kellyanne to outgrow her fanciful world, hoping for her to blend in with the other children. However, a hasty decision results in a tragic turn of events - the 'death' of Pobby and Dingan, pushing Kellyanne into a vortex of sorrow and illness. As the whole town is touched by this unusual catastrophe, we witness the unfolding tale through the eyes of Ashmol, who finds himself as the unexpected savior. He must now navigate through this emotional turmoil, bridging the gap between fantasy and reality, to mend his sister's shattered world. "Opal Dream" is a heartrending journey that explores the power of imagination, the bonds of family, and the resilience of a community caught in the crossfire of reality and fantasy.
