Plot

In the heart of the mountains, where family camping trips were once a cherished tradition, 16-year-old Lane Speer finds herself grappling with the untimely loss of her father to the ruthless clutches of cancer. A year on, the echoes of her father's laughter still haunt her, while her mother finds solace in the arms of a stranger - a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, whom Lane barely knows. As the newlyweds bask in the glow of their honeymoon, Lane finds herself thrust into the unfamiliar realm of her LDS step-aunt, exchanged for a Bible-themed girls' camp teeming with young LDS devotees. As she navigates this uncharted territory, the specter of her camping past looms large, stirring bittersweet memories of her father and their shared love for the great outdoors. Amid this whirlwind of change, Lane is tasked with reconciling her new surroundings, coping with her deep-seated grief, and forging an unlikely relationship with her new family. A gentle exploration of faith, loss, and the ties that bind, 'Once I Was a Beehive' paints an evocative picture of a young girl's journey towards acceptance and healing.
