In the quaint town of Warsaw, Vermont, Hazel Flagg's quiet life takes a dramatic twist when she is erroneously diagnosed with terminal radium poisoning from a factory accident. With the news of her impending demise, Hazel, an untraveled soul, contemplates using her compensation to fulfill her dream of experiencing New York in grandeur. Just when her dreams seem to be crumbling with the revelation of the misdiagnosis, destiny steps in with the arrival of Wally Cook, a disgraced reporter from the Morning Star newspaper in New York. Wally, desperate to resurrect his tarnished reputation following a scandalous hoax, sees Hazel's courageous battle against mortality as the perfect story to revive his career. He proposes an enticing plan: escort Hazel to New York to narrate her poignant tale while treating her to a lavish farewell. Hazel, seeing an opportunity to live her dream, agrees. As Wally's compelling narrative takes the city by storm, Hazel transforms into the darling of New York. Amid the whirlwind of attention, they find themselves falling in love. Now, Hazel faces a dilemma: disclose the truth about her health and risk her newfound popularity and love, or perpetuate the lie and live her dream life. All while an Austrian specialist looms in the background, threatening to uncover Hazel's secret. As New York anticipates Hazel's public and imminent death, she must decide how to conclude her story, unless fate or others decide to do it for her.
