Plot

In the well-heeled suburbs, where prosperity and liberal ideals cultivate a life of serenity and aspiration, resides a tight-knit group of seniors - Wendy, Billie, Ann, Jonah, Price, and Robert - students of an alternative private school. This sextet, bound by an unconventional monogamous relationship that stretches back to their playground days, thrive not on the fleeting appeal of one-on-one relationships, but on the intense, symbiotic loyalty to their group. Their weekly partner swaps are a testament to their defiance of high school triviality, aiming not just to survive, but to transcend. The relationship between Wendy and Billie is particularly fervent, a bond that is tested when Wendy encounters Sean, a new senior from Chicago. A shared "inner geek" sparks an immediate connection that soon blossoms into romance, ripping Wendy between her newfound affection for Sean and her long-standing commitment to the group. As Wendy steps beyond the boundaries of her group oath, Billie fears losing her best friend, armed with a box full of intimate mementos that could shatter Wendy's reputation in the blink of an eye. Meanwhile, Wendy's younger brother Nathan is smitten by Sean's mother, Helen, who is in a three-week limbo before starting a new job. Employing his culinary prowess, Nathan is determined to woo the older woman. As the threat of Wendy's departure looms, Billie resorts to testing Wendy's loyalty, pushing her to publicly humiliate Ryan, a girl who left the group a year ago. Witnessing this brutal display, Sean presents Wendy with an ultimatum: sever ties with the group and embrace a normal life, or risk losing him. Wendy teeters on the brink of two ultimatums, while also grappling with her feelings towards Ryan, who has now become a submissive girlfriend, a shadow of her former self. The group doesn't sit idle, testing Sean and Wendy's relationship with a cruel reminder of Wendy's past, courtesy of the box of mementos. As Wendy witnesses Billie's torment at the hands of their peers, she is torn between comforting her friend and leaving the group. But Wendy makes a brave decision - to face the world alone, setting a precedent for the girls in the group to confront the next chapter of their lives on their own terms. Wendy, Billie, and Ryan, now alone and unbound, begin to embrace the myriad possibilities that this newfound independence offers.
