Nightbreed (1990)

In a world populated by nightmares and the creatures of the dark, Aaron Boone is tormented by his own dreams. These dreams of a mysterious place called Midian, where monsters dwell, are so vivid they disrupt his reality. His life spirals further out of control after his psychiatrist, Dr. Philip K. Decker, manipulates him into believing he's a serial killer terrorizing families across the city. As if this revelation isn't disturbing enough, Dr. Decker hands him a supposed calming medication that winds up being a potent hallucinogen. After a near-fatal accident lands him in a hospital, Aaron unexpectedly finds a clue about Midian from a lunatic roommate, Narcisse. With this newfound knowledge, he embarks on a journey to Midian, only to discover it's an eerie cemetery hiding an underground society of monstrous outcasts. His encounter with this underworld is not without consequence as he's bitten by one of the inhabitants, Peloquin. Emerging from the darkness, Aaron is met with a deadly betrayal by Dr. Decker, leading to his death at the hands of unsuspecting police. But death is not the end for Aaron; the bite from Peloquin resurrects him, binding him to the strange world beneath Midian. Now a part of this ancient breed of monsters, Aaron finds a new purpose - to protect his brethren from the monstrous humans in the light. Meanwhile, Aaron's girlfriend, Lori Winston, is on a desperate quest to find him. Unbeknownst to her, she's also being pursued by Dr. Decker, whose sinister intentions go far beyond psychiatric manipulation. He seeks to annihilate the Nightbreed, the underground monsters, for reasons of his own twisted design. Nightbreed is a labyrinth of dark secrets and monstrous revelations where the lines between man and monster blur. Based on Clive Barker's novel "Cabal," this film plunges you into a world where the outcasts might just be the real heroes, and the humans the true monsters.
