Next of Kin (1989)

Amidst the pulsating rhythm of city life, Chicago policeman Truman Gates finds himself estranged from his rural Kentucky roots. His life, now entwined with Jessie, his violinist wife and music teacher, seems worlds apart from his family's coal-grimed existence back home. His elder brother, Briar Gates, grapples with the harsh reality of a closed coal mine and harbors resentment for Truman, accusing him of luring their younger brother Gerald to the city's glittering allure.
