Plot

Amid the pulsating heart of the world's largest democracy, India, a monumental general election prepares to unfold. Stretching across 9 million polling booths and involving over 800 million voters, this colossal event comes with a staggering price tag of nearly $5 billion. Amidst this swirling political maelstrom, Newton Kumar, a novice government clerk, is handed an assignment that seems deceptively uncomplicated: orchestrate the elections in a remote village nestled within the untamed jungles of Central India. This isolated hamlet, however, is far from tranquil. The lush foliage teems with Communist guerrillas, embroiled in a relentless war against the state, spanning decades. Meanwhile, the indigenous tribes, untouched by modern amenities, eke out a primitive existence. Navigating this political minefield to ensure 'free and fair' elections is a Herculean task, a reality that Newton soon comes face to face with. Undeterred by the surrounding cynicism and palpable danger, Newton remains steadfast in his mission. He challenges the indifference of the security forces and grapples with the haunting spectre of guerrilla attacks. But the jungle's unforgiving law – 'The more things change, the worse they will get' – looms ominously over him. In this crucible of conflict and chaos, will Newton's unwavering resolve be enough to uphold the sanctity of democracy? The movie 'Newton' (2017) is a riveting exploration of this compelling question.
