Plot

In the vast isolation of Argentina's Patagonia region, Liz, a publishing house editor and writer, navigates the tumultuous seas of new motherhood while her documentary filmmaker husband, Gustavo, is away in Chile. Struggling to bond with her newborn son, Nicanor, amid the overwhelming silence of their home, Liz grapples with her inability to produce enough milk for breastfeeding, a problem that gnaws at her self-perception as a mother. Desperate for some semblance of her old life, Liz hires Yazmina, a slightly older woman, to help manage domestic chores and occasionally look after Nicanor. Liz, however, is adamant that the bottle be a last resort, viewing breastfeeding as a fundamental motherly act that symbolises her unique bond with her son. Loneliness fades into the background when Liz encounters Rosa, a factory worker and mother to newborn Clarisa, in the park. An instant camaraderie blossoms between the two mothers, leading Liz into Rosa's world and introducing her to Rosa's mysterious sister, Renata. The friendship brings a breath of liberation to Liz, allowing her to reconnect with her friends and work, and regain a piece of her former self. However, as the friendship deepens, Liz finds herself drawn into a whirlwind of complexity. Rosa's demanding nature begins to drain more than she gives, and the true dynamics of Rosa's relationship with Renata and Clarisa unravel, contradicting the picture Rosa initially painted. The promise of liberation soon morphs into a dangerous dance, as Liz finds herself caught in a web of deceit and emotional manipulation. With her sanity teetering on the edge due to the mounting stress from Rosa, Renata, and even Yazmina, Liz must grapple with the decision of maintaining these relationships in her life. Amidst this chaos, she must navigate through the fog of her emotions, finding a way to protect her bond with her son and balance the scales of her tumultuous existence. The journey of Liz in 'My Friend from the Park' is a tale of motherhood, friendship, and the struggle for self-identity, wrapped in the beautiful but isolating backdrop of Patagonia.
