Plot

In the quaint Nebraska town of his childhood, John Farley's formative years were marred by the relentless torment he endured in Mr. Woodcock's gym class—a sadistic gauntlet of humiliation that left a lasting impression on the fatherless youngster. Escaping his past, he channeled his frustration into becoming a renowned self-help author, his motivational words resonating on a bestseller level. John's triumphant homecoming, however, is soon tarnished by an unexpected twist. As he returns for a book signing tour and to receive the town's prestigious corn cob key, he is met with a horrifying revelation. His adoring mother, Beverly, announces her engagement to none other than the despised Jasper Woodcock, the very man who made his school years a living nightmare. The impending wedding threatens to not only share the limelight with John's honor, but also rekindle his old anxieties. In a desperate bid to uproot this unsettling union, John allies with the uncommonly odd Nedderman brothers, his old school friends whose reputation for absurdity is only surpassed by their loyalty. As they navigate this emotional labyrinth, their attempts to derail the marriage and expose Mr. Woodcock's true colors keep rebounding with comedic consequences. The plot thickens in this tale of past torment, unexpected alliances, and the quest to prevent a hated figure from becoming a permanent part of the family.
