Plot

In the small town of Warrington, England, the year 1993 unfolds a heartrending tale. Twelve-year-old Tim Parry is tragically killed by an IRA bomb while on a simple errand to buy a Mother's Day card, turning his life and that of another young boy into a symbol of senseless violence. The aftershock of this calamity reverberates through his parents, Wendy and Colin, who are left shattered and fragmented. Colin seeks solace in activism, using his anguish to fuel a public campaign for peace, while Wendy retreats into the depths of her sorrow. Across the sea in Dublin, housewife Susan McHugh watches the unfolding tragedy on television and feels a call to action. Stirred by the enormity of the atrocity, she organizes a rally against violence, a beacon of hope in a sea of despair. The response is overwhelmingly positive, yet the path is not without obstacles. Alongside her supportive husband, Arthur, Susan withstands a barrage of threats and accusations from republicans, accusing them of pro-British sentiment. As Susan grapples with feelings of failure, a ray of hope pierces the darkness. Wendy and Colin, bolstered by an outpouring of sympathy from strangers, visit the McHughs. They use their heartbreaking story to rally support for Susan's cause, speaking on behalf of all parents bereaved by violence. A year later, a truce is declared to end the sectarian war, and in 1995, the Parrys establish a peace foundation, turning their personal tragedy into a beacon of hope for victims of terrorism. Their journey from grief to activism paints a poignant tale of resilience and unity in the face of devastating loss.
