Plot

In the wake of a sudden and tragic accident, Rebecca Trager Lott, a college poetry professor and poet, grapples with the untimely demise of her beloved husband, Ben Lott. Her lifeline during this heartbreaking time is a mosaic of women in her life; her confidante and best friend Sylvie Morrow, her lost and still-grieving sister Lucy Trager, and her ex-stepmother Alberta Trager, a formidable Wall Street executive. Sylvie, an earth-mother figure, is wrestling with her own marital insecurities, perched precariously on the brink of its potential end. Lucy, a chain-smoking soul, is directionless and haunted by their mother's death from cancer a decade and a half ago. Alberta, a woman whose efficiency is as intimidating as it is effective, extends her professional prowess into her personal life, much to Lucy's chagrin. As time unfurls, each woman strives to navigate their individual turmoil while offering support to the bereft Rebecca. Their lives take an unexpected turn when an enigmatic house painter, whom they affectionately dub "Valentino," enters their world. Valentino's presence has a profound impact on each woman, stirring up emotions, memories, and revelations. Rebecca, perceived as the one who had the perfect marriage, finds herself dispensing wisdom for their respective issues. However, the question arises - how long is Rebecca allowed to wallow in her sorrow? A startling confession about her marriage and her feelings towards "Valentino" might just hold the key to her healing and their collective futures.
