Plot

Unfolding in the vibrant yet volatile landscape of 1980s Taiwan, post-military dictatorship, 'Monga' plunges the audience into the tumultuous lives of five adolescent boys experiencing the trials and tribulations of youth. The tale, as narrated by Mosquito, our protagonist, begins with his initiation into the gang following a trivial skirmish over a chicken leg. Without a father figure in his life and devoid of genuine friendships, Mosquito finds himself irresistibly drawn to the camaraderie exhibited by Monk, Dragon, and the rest of the pack. Yet, in this world where violence lurks around every corner, Mosquito soon learns that appearances can be deceiving. The harmony in Monga is shattered when mainland intruders set their sights on the district, upsetting the delicate equilibrium of power and straining the bonds of brotherhood. As the district teeters on the brink of chaos, friendships are put through the ultimate test and loyalties find themselves under harsh scrutiny. 'Monga' is a compelling journey of discovery, friendship, and the harsh realities of life, set against the backdrop of a district grappling with its own identity.
