Plot

In the throes of chaos and hilarity, Captain Binghamton's voyage to Brisbane takes a wild turn when his torpedo boat, PT-116, succumbs to an unanticipated leak and plunges into the abyss. Left with no alternative, he commandeers PT-73, helmed by the resourceful Ensign Parker in the absence of the seasoned skipper, McHale. Upon reaching Brisbane, Binghamton imposes a vessel-bound restriction on his crew, only for them to find unconventional allies in the crew of a neighboring Russian merchant ship. However, this seemingly harmless camaraderie spirals into a frenzy of confusion, as the Russians scheme to exploit PT-73 to ferry Australian whiskey. Amidst a rowdy celebration, a bewildering mix-up of uniforms culminates in Lieutenant Wilbur Harkness, the son of an Army Air Force general, being mistaken for a spy and hauled away due to his Russian attire. Parker, now donning Wilbur's uniform in a frantic bid to shed his Soviet guise, is thrust into the unexpected role of an Army captain. His unplanned heroics peak when he inadvertently triggers an air raid warning, coinciding with a stealth attack from a Japanese air squadron. Recognized for his unintended bravery, Parker finds himself rising through the ranks to Army major. The dynamic duo of Parker and Binghamton find themselves suspended mid-air in a jeep, from where they spot the impending danger of a Japanese fleet. Their timely alert facilitates an Allied victory, cementing Parker's status as an unlikely national hero. Despite Lieutenant Harkness's objections, Parker races to Washington, preparing to receive accolades from President Roosevelt himself. Through a whirlwind of madcap adventures and unforeseen heroics, 'McHale's Navy Joins the Air Force' delivers a riotous blend of comedy and action.
