Plot

Transcon Airways' Flight 602, a Boeing 727, embarks on its scheduled journey from Los Angeles to New York, with a brief layover in Salt Lake City. The flight is under the command of Captain Pete Douglas, assisted by First Officer Stan Burkhart and Second Officer Mike Fuller. Despite the jovial atmosphere on board, Captain Douglas is distracted, his mind entangled with concerns about his wife's impending surgery and an imminent snowstorm that threatens to close airports. As the airliner lands in Salt Lake City, they refuel and welcome new passengers, including an enigmatic prison inmate and his U.S. Marshal escort. The aging Marshal, though plagued with heart problems, is as sturdy as an oak, his holster housing a magnum revolver. His prisoner, shackled but silently observant, is biding his time, waiting for an opportunity to seize control. After departure from Salt Lake City, the Marshal's heart pains become recurrent, yet he masks his discomfort, maintaining a stern facade to keep his prisoner in check. The captive's eyes, however, are locked on the Marshal's weapon, plotting a dangerous takeover that could plunge the lives of everyone on board into peril. Their situation escalates when a gunshot rings out, an engine falters, and the pilot collapses, leaving the co-pilot and engineer wrestling with the controls. They struggle to keep the plane soaring through the turbulent skies, aiming for a safe landing site, while the life-or-death drama inside the cabin unfolds. As they journey towards New York, every second brings a new challenge, turning Flight 602 into a high-stakes race against time and terror, 40,000 feet above the ground.
