Plot

"Love Streams" paints an intimate portrait of the lives of Robert Harmon, a debonair author, and his emotionally volatile sister, Sarah. Robert's life is a whirlwind of fleeting romances, nicotine clouds, and alcoholic haze, a disarrayed existence defined by his artistic whims. He conducts interviews for his book, indulges in brief weekend affairs at the casino, and flits from one infatuation to the next, all for the thrill of the moment. His free-spirited nature, however, comes with its own cost as he struggles to shoulder any form of responsibility, including the care of his young son. His life is a chaotic symphony, punctuated by teaching his 8-year-old son the art of drinking and leaving him alone in a hotel room. Sarah, on the other hand, is grappling with her own turmoil. Her eccentric and extreme behavior is causing her marriage to crumble. Her daughter, Debbie, frightened by her mother's unpredictable nature, chooses to live with her father. This decision drives a knife into Sarah's heart, pushing her further into the abyss of her emotional breakdown. The film unfolds primarily within the confines of Robert's house, a stage for their individual battles. As the narrative progresses, the house empties, mirroring the stark loneliness that engulfs Robert and Sarah's lives. Watch as they navigate the tumultuous currents of their existence, each struggling to stay afloat in their own love streams.
