Plot

Three years have ticked by since Elling and his institutional roommate, Kjell Bjarne, settled in the heart of the town. Elling now resides solo in his apartment while Kjell Bjarne has ascended a floor higher, sharing space with Reidun and her petite daughter, Mojo. Elling, feeling like a foreigner in his own world, gradually sinks into an abyss of self-isolation. His eyes, wide with astonishment, scrutinize the world around him, unable to comprehend how others adapt so effortlessly. In a twist of events, Kjell Bjarne steps in, disrupting Elling's solitude. Despite his initial protests, Elling experiences a sense of contentment as he morphs into a new man - polished, well-rested, and stylishly attired. Yet, beneath this newfound exterior, he recognizes an empty space longing to be filled. One fateful evening, he stumbles upon the woman who he believes can fill this emptiness. Armed with determination, he sets out to earn her trust and claim her love. Just as he feels his life falling into place, a dinner invitation from his newfound love throws a wrench into his plans. Subtle objections begin to surface, causing Elling to question his path. The narrative takes an unexpected turn, deviating far from Elling's envisioned journey, leaving him, and the audience, in a captivating swirl of anticipation.
