Life During Wartime (2010)

In the throes of separation from her imprisoned husband Bill (Hinds), a man plagued by the dark affliction of pedophilia, Trish (Janney) stands on the precipice of a new life. She eagerly anticipates her impending marriage to Harvey (Lerner), a beacon of normalcy she hopes will serve as a steady paternal figure for her two sons. However, the family's hopeful horizon is clouded as Bill is liberated from his prison confines, and the boys encounter their prospective stepfather. The family finds itself in a delicate balancing act, teetering between the choice to forgive or obliterate their past. Meanwhile, Trish's sister Joy (Henderson), a pristine embodiment of innocence, is tormented by the specters of her romantic history. Temporarily disentangled from her debauched husband Allen (Williams) and her career in a New Jersey penitentiary, Joy unwittingly sows seeds of scandal, unearthing hidden skeletons with every step she takes. One hauntingly stylized sequence encapsulates Joy's struggle; clad in her nightgown, she traverses the shadowy labyrinth of Miami's streets, her purity starkly juxtaposing the self-inflicted torment and yearning that shroud her.
