Krotoa (2017)

Plucked from the comforting embrace of her tight-knit Khoi tribe at the tender age of 11, the spirited and intelligent Krotoa finds herself thrust into the service of Jan van Riebeeck, a trading ally of her uncle. She steps into the heart of the first Fort, a stronghold established in 1652 by the Dutch East India Company. Within these formidable walls, Krotoa blossoms into a forward-thinking young woman. Her keen ability to absorb the Dutch language and customs allows her to ascend the ranks, ultimately becoming an essential interpreter for van Riebeeck, the inaugural Governor of the Cape Colony. However, her impeccable assimilation into Dutch society comes at a heavy price. Krotoa finds herself ensnared in a bitter conflict between the two cultures, leading to her rejection by the very Khoi people she once called family and her eventual destruction at the hands of the Dutch. In her desperate attempt to bridge the cultural chasm, Krotoa pays the ultimate price.
