In the tumultuous backdrop of the late 19th century Dutch East Indies, Captain Hanson of the vessel "Batavia Queen" stands on the precipice of a daring salvage expedition. His lover, the enigmatic Laura, holds the key to a lost trove, a shipwrecked vessel once commanded by her late husband, its belly teeming with a cache of priceless pearls. Equipped with a solitary diver and a diving bell, their voyage holds promise. However, their mission takes an unexpected turn when Hanson is strong-armed by a government agent into transporting a load of convicts. The ship's hold, initially intended for treasures, now echoes with the sound of clanging chains and the murmur of outlaws. The pearls wait silently, nestled in the wreckage lying dangerously near the simmering, unpredictable volcano on Krakatoa Island, a ticking geological time bomb. Unbeknownst to the crew, the island also shelters a convent school where Laura's young son learns, oblivious to the imminent danger, adding another layer of tension to their high-stakes mission.
