Plot

Kontroll (2003) is a riveting journey through the spectral underworld of Budapest's sprawling subway system, a metaphorical maze that breathes life into the ethereal characters and mysterious happenings that inhabit it. This is the realm of Bulcsú (Sándor Csányi) whose existence has been displaced from the sunlit world above to the chilly and solitary labyrinth below. His life now revolves around patrolling this urban artery as a ticket controller, leading a quirky crew of equally displaced souls, ensuring that the city's commuters pay their due. This realm, forever shrouded in twilight, is a world unto itself, where the surface dwellers' daily lives are replaced with the peculiarities of the underground. Here, Bulcsú and his band of eccentric controllers confront indifferent commuters, a riveting romantic interest, and a hierarchy bent on competition. However, what truly infuses their mundane routine with a dash of dread is the ominous presence of a devious serial killer, turning their dark comedy of existence into a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase. Kontroll is an exhilarating concoction of romance, thriller, and dark comedy, where the lives of misfits, lovers, and dreamers collide and intertwine. As the enigmatic maiden, the handsome hero, and the sinister killer engage in a race against time, trains, and fate, the question remains - what would happen if control was ever lost in this subterranean world? Would you dare to ride for free in this unpredictable underground universe?
