Kings of the Evening (2008)

In the harsh reality of the Great Depression, Homer Hobbs emerges from a two-year stint in prison, only to find that the outside world is even more unforgiving than the punishing regimen of the chain gang. He steps into the desolate landscape of an urban town devoid of jobs, prospects, or hope, a place where the future seems as bleak as the gray cityscape. As he struggles to survive, he finds himself in the company of four other souls, each grappling with their own desperate attempts to claw their way out of poverty. The struggle for survival is grim, and life serves no mercy. Yet, every Sunday night, a spark of hope is kindled in a neglected corner of the town. In a shabby hall in a forsaken neighborhood, the downtrodden men of the ghetto don their finest threads, pieced together from whatever scraps their lives can afford, barter, or pilfer. They vie in a clandestine contest like no other, where the victor walks away with a mere five dollars. But the real allure lies not in the meager cash prize, it's the fleeting chance to experience royalty, to be crowned the King of the Evening. For these men, the brief touch of a woman, the fleeting admiration of the crowd, and the sensation of a stylish suit against their skin are enough to fuel dreams of liberation from the squalor of the ghetto. But only one can rise above the rest, only one can be the esteemed - King of the Evening.
