King of the Zombies (1941)

Set against the chaotic backdrop of World War II, a small plane battles a relentless storm off the south coast of America. The desperate pilot, James 'Mac' McCarthy, and his passengers, Bill Summers and his faithful manservant, Jeff Jackson, are blown frighteningly off course. As their fuel gauge dangerously hovers on empty, they are guided by a faint radio signal to crashland on an enigmatic island nestled between Cuba and Porto Rico. Surviving the crash, they seek refuge in an imposing mansion owned by the mysterious Austrian, Dr. Mikhail Sangre. Bill, on a secret mission to find the missing Admiral Arthur Wainwright, finds himself confronting a chilling reality far removed from the war-ridden world they left behind. The mansion, steeped in uncanny stillness, whispers tales of the supernatural to the easily-spooked Jeff, who becomes convinced of a haunting presence—zombies. Despite their initial skepticism, Mac and Bill are drawn into the mansion's shadowy secrets. An eerie exploration leads them to a shocking discovery—a voodoo ritual unfolding in the depths of the mansion's cellar. Dr. Sangre, they realize, has been manipulating the realm of the undead, transferring the personalities of prominent individuals like Admiral Wainwright into his zombie thralls to extract valuable war intelligence. However, the interruption of their discovery triggers a terrifying turn of events. The zombies, once under the doctor's sinister control, begin to rebel against their creator. In the heart of the storm-ravaged island, the trio must now navigate a treacherous labyrinth of espionage, voodoo magic, and a zombie uprising.
