Kareeb (1998)

Birju, a rebellious young man, leads a comfortable life in an upper-middle-class household, where he lives with his parents, elder sibling, sister-in-law, and nephew. His father yearns for him to shoulder some responsibilities and work, but Birju is more inclined towards petty theft, weaving tales, and nurturing a romantic fascination with a stunning woman named Neha. In a hopeful turn of events, Birju proposes to Neha, much to the delight and relief of his parents, who believe marriage could be the beacon that guides him onto the right path. However, when Neha stumbles upon Birju's true colors, she staunchly rejects his proposal and relocates to another town. Haunted by Neha's memories and desperate to mend things with her, Birju flees from home, embarking on a quest to find Neha. He eventually locates Neha and her ailing mother, discovering that a costly operation is imminent. Determined to help, Birju resorts to his old ways and pilfers the money for the surgery. However, as he rushes to pay the hospital, he is hit with a devastating revelation - the operation has already taken place, and Neha is poised to marry the doctor who performed the surgery. This twist of fate leaves Birju grappling with the consequences of his actions and the harsh realities of life.
