Plot

In the tumultuous backdrop of Argentina's 1976 coup d'état, our story unfolds through the innocent perspective of ten-year-old Harry (Matías del Pozo), who remains blissfully unaware of the political chaos seeping into his life. His father, a bold human rights lawyer (Ricardo Darín), and mother, a dedicated research scientist (Cecilia Roth), are forced to abandon their city life. They find refuge in a desolate summer house, escaping the relentless pursuit of the military police. In their new realm, Harry and his younger brother, affectionately named El Enano (Milton de la Canal) - 'Little Guy' in the subtitles, but 'dwarf' by literal translation, must adapt to their new identities, attempting to maintain a semblance of normalcy amidst the turmoil. Harry finds solace in his fascination with the legendary escape artist Harry Houdini, while El Enano grapples with his fears, represented by his reversion to bed-wetting. Their secluded world is further complicated by the arrival of Lucas (Tomás Fonzi), a student cloaked in his own alias, seeking refuge. Despite the mounting tension and the struggle to uphold their disguise, a heartwarming encounter with their estranged grandparents (Fernanda Mistral and Héctor Alterio) reminds them of their unbroken familial bond. Subtle metaphors like the mother's incessant smoking and El Enano's bed-wetting resonate throughout, underscoring the precarious balance they must maintain in their life on the run. 'Kamchatka' is a tale of resilience and familial love, woven against the stark canvas of political unrest.
