Plot

In a tranquil Hungarian village, the peace is shattered by the brutal murder of a Romany family. The crime, severe and unsolved, sends shockwaves through the community. Not far from the scene, another Romany family is ensnared by an undercurrent of terror, their dormant fears violently awakened. Meanwhile, in the distant land of Canada, the patriarch of this family makes a desperate decision – his family must join him, escaping the ominous shadow of bigotry that haunts them. The family, feeling forsaken by the indifferent majority, struggles to navigate the day following the attack. As night blankets the village, they huddle closer, their beds a fortress against the unseen enemy. However, their aspirations to flee this terrifying reality prove to be agonizingly elusive. Bence Fliegauf paints a chilling portrait of a society veering towards a pogrom-like violence, inspired by a harrowing series of real-life killings in Hungary that claimed eight lives within a year. The camera remains unwaveringly close to the protagonists, rendering the relentless crescendo of events a visceral experience. In this haunting narrative, the sinister whispers of fear and prejudice are as much characters as the family caught in their ominous grip.
