Plot

In the twilight of the Frontier-era, we meet Roy Rogers in his last historical role, playing not one, but two characters – the legendary outlaw Jesse James and a cunning gambler, Clint Burns. Jesse James, contrary to his notorious reputation, is a savior to the struggling homesteaders and farmers. He has taken it upon himself to protect these humble folk from a ruthless land-grabbing scheme orchestrated by the agents of a railroad company. Meanwhile, Clint Burns, Jesse's doppelgänger, is a gambler with no loyalty to anyone but himself. When the railroad company discovers the uncanny resemblance between Jesse and Clint, they seize the opportunity to tarnish Jesse's name further. Clint is hired to impersonate Jesse, wreaking havoc and turning the tide of public opinion against the real Jesse James. The ruse works, fooling almost everyone except Jesse's old comrade, the astute Sheriff "Gabby" Whittaker, played by George 'Gabby' Hayes and a sharp-minded newspaper reporter, Polly Morgan, portrayed by Gale Storm. In a masterstroke, Jesse turns the tables on his impersonator, using his intuition and guile. He puts an end to Burn's charade and proceeds to impersonate Burns himself. With this new identity, he infiltrates the ranks of the scheming railroad company, determined to expose their greed and corruption. His mission: to bring justice to the settlers, clear his name, and restore peace to the land. However, the path is fraught with danger and betrayal, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats in this thrilling western adventure.
