Returning from the fervor of the Crusades, Wilfred of Ivanhoe, a resolute knight of Saxon lineage, finds his homeland ablaze with tension. England, under the iron fist of Prince John and his Norman henchmen, bears the weight of the throne's power struggle in the absence of the rightful ruler, King Richard the Lionheart, now confined in the distant land of Austria.
