In the sunny summer of 1942, in the quaint town of Ithaca, fourteen-year-old Homer Macauley takes on the world with the speed of his bicycle and the fervor of his heart. With his older brother off to war and his father no longer in the picture, he becomes the man of the house, shouldering the responsibility of his widowed mother, his elder sister, and his young brother, Ulysses. Homer transforms into the town's quickest and most reliable telegraph messenger, delivering not just messages, but parcels of love, hope, anguish, and even death to the spirited folks of Ithaca. Yet, among the numerous messages he carries, there’s one that will irrevocably alter his world, forcing him to grapple with the harsh realities of life.
