In the heart of London's vibrant Soho, we find Maggie, a resilient 60-year-old widow, grappling with a dire predicament. With her beloved grandson, Olly, battling a life-threatening illness, she is thrust into a desperate search for funds to afford his medical treatment. Her quest leads her down the labyrinthine lanes of Soho, where her gaze is ensnared by a diminutive poster in the window of 'Sexy World' advertising a 'Hostess' position.
With desperation blurring the lines of her reality, she steps into the peculiar world of Micky, the shop owner. Initially taken aback by Maggie's presence, Micky's curiosity is piqued. He decides to play along, offering her the unorthodox job. Guided by her colleague Luisa, Maggie learns the art of the 'glory hole'. Despite initial hesitations, she soon morphs into a proficient hostess, adopting the pseudonym 'Irina Palm'.
As Irina Palm, she navigates her new clandestine life, juggling the desire to save her grandson with the need to keep her work veiled from her unsuspecting family and friends. This balancing act brings about a series of awkward encounters, further complicating her life. Yet, through it all, she remains steadfast, her determination drawing even Micky into a spell of fascination.
