Intruder in the Dust (1949)

In the heart of rural Mississippi during the tumultuous 1940s, Lucas Beauchamp, an African-American man known for his defiance against white supremacy, is discovered near the lifeless body of a white man, a smoking gun in his hand. Swiftly accused and imprisoned for a murder he denies committing, Beauchamp seeks the aid of Gavin Stevens, the town's most distinguished attorney. However, Stevens dismisses his plea for help. When a young local boy, whose life had been touched by Beauchamp's kindness, hears chilling whispers of a mob planning to take justice into their own hands, he makes an impassioned plea to Stevens. He urges the lawyer to step into the courtroom on Beauchamp's behalf, to face down the town's prejudices and unravel the truth behind the murder.
