Plot

In the heart of Lisbon, Portugal, nestled within an institute for the visually impaired, children are nurtured into a life of safety, taught to navigate their world without risks. The arrival of Ian, a maverick blind teacher, however, sets a new rhythm. Ian, armed with revolutionary teaching methods, urges the children to abandon the cane, encouraging them to harness their remaining senses to map their environment. Through echolocation, instinct, and the power of imagination, he crafts a world that thrills and challenges them. Ian's charismatic and slightly brash approach stirs a wave of hope amongst the children. Yet, they are constantly probing him, seeking assurance of his sincerity and shared experience. Ian's lessons unfold beneath the window of Eva, a withdrawn adult patient cocooned in silence. Intriguingly, Eva emerges from her shell to become Ian's most engaged student, their rapport hinting at a budding romance. Braving the outside world, they wander through cafes and harbors, crossing bustling streets guided solely by their ability to decipher the sounds of their surroundings. Their ventures are shadowed by Serrano, a young blind boy, whom Ian encourages to visualize a ship in the harbor using his imagination. However, Ian's unconventional methods rouse the skepticism of the school's head doctor and principal, Francis Frappat. Concerned that Ian may be weaving an illusion of hope, he becomes a formidable challenge. The narrative beautifully captures the tension and triumph of breaking barriers and challenging norms in a world unseen.
