Plot

Stripped of an ordinary childhood by her overzealous mother, Katie, Lillian Roth ascends to the dazzling heights of Broadway and Hollywood stardom all before her twentieth birthday. Tragedy strikes when her childhood love, David Tredman, passes away just before their wedding, leading Lillian to seek solace at the bottom of a bottle. This marks the start of her debilitating descent into alcoholism. She finds herself entangled in a fleeting marriage with an immature aviation cadet named Wallie, then a tumultuous divorce, and finally a harrowing union with Tony Bardeman - a cruel and abusive man. After a desperate and failed suicide attempt, Lillian's path crosses with that of Burt McGuire. He becomes her beacon of hope, guiding her out of her sixteen-year-long nightmare and towards a life of potential happiness. Through Lillian's journey, "I'll Cry Tomorrow" traces the shadows of her life, not just the years spent in torment but also the first twenty years lived under her mother's oppressive ambition. A tale of resilience and redemption, it serves as a stark reminder that even the brightest stars may sometimes find themselves lost in the darkest night.
